Bruce Bowen

Bowen had a typical Bowen year. He played great defense but did nothing to make himself a relevant fantasy player. He shot just 40.5 percent from the floor and 58.9 percent from the line while averaging a little more than six points per game. Bowen's only quality as a fantasy player is that he shot 38.4% from the 3-point line and made 1.1 three-pointers per game.

Bowen is a player whose skills don’t translate into a good fantasy player. He is a great individual defender, but is not a great scorer (7.5 ppg) or shooter (career 40.9% FG, 57% FT). Bowen does have the ability to knock down the three, but look for some of his opportunities to go to the newly acquired Matt Bonner.

Bowen is known for his defense, which keeps him in the Spurs starting lineup year after year. Unfortunately, it generally doesn't result in a lot of steals, so there's limited fantasy value springing from his ability to play tough on-the-ball defense. On offense, Bowen increased his shots per game to 7.3 last season, but he is by no means a scoring threat (8.2 ppg). He can hit the 3 -- 40.3 percent last season and 38.2 percent for his career -- and made 1.2 3-pointers per game.

The Spurs are set just fine with scorers and shooters, but somebody on the roster has to be a defensive specialist. Bowen’s defensive skills got him 82 starts last season, but Bowen surprisingly led the NBA by shooting 44 percent from three-point range, making 101 out of 229 shots from beyond the arc. Still, Bowen won’t help you much in any other category, and he’s one of the few players in league history who shot worse from the line (40.4%) than from three-point range.
