Howard saw action in seven games this season, averaging 3.0 points and 1.1 rebounds with the Heat in 2012-13.
ANALYSIS
Howard was available for the third straight season to fill a roster spot for the Heat after two 10-day contracts turned into the rest of the season. At age 40, his days of regular playing time are over, and he will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. If he plays another season, it will likely be a similar situation of catching on midseason to be a veteran filling a bench spot.

Howard, a 38-year-old veteran big man, will return to the Heat this season after appearing in 57 games last year. He averaged 2.4 PPG, 2.1 rebounds and will look to provide depth off the bench for Miami.
Some were surprised to hear Howard was still in the league, but as an injury replacement in Portland last season, he showed he still has some game. He’ll be a veteran depth player for Miami, unlikely to get much playing time unless Bosh or Haslem is injured.
Howard's role with Minnesota is unclear as he heads into the 2007-08 season. He was traded to Minnesota this offseason from Houston for Mike James and Justin Reed with Howard signing off on the deal due to the promise of playing with Kevin Garnett. With KG gone, Howard now faces the prospect of little playing time as the rebuilding T-Wolves look to give younger players a shot. Expect Minnesota to work hard to trade the $14 million left on his six-year, $36.9 million contract.
Howard was the only constant on last season's Rockets' team, and that's not saying much. He'll again be the Rockets starting power forward, logging close to 30 minutes per game, but he's the fourth or fifth option in the offense and isn't much of a rebounder for a four (6.7 rpg a year ago). Howard will shoot a decent percentage from the floor and the line, but there's virtually no upside here.
Bowen will provide some depth off the bench behind Tracy McGrady at the three, but he isn't likely to play much.
Howard shouldn't have much trouble beating out Mo Taylor for the starting spot in Houston, and he won't get much attention from opposing defenses - not with Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming on the floor. He won't score many points as a third option, but should put up solid numbers across the board.
Howard won't be counted on to be the main scoring option for the Magic - a role that is delegated to Tracy McGrady. This could prove to be a blessing for Howard as defenses will key on McGrady, leaving his job a much easier task. Howard will get most of the minutes at power forward and maybe a few at center when the Magic go to a smaller lineup.
