Hunter missed the whole 2008-09 season with a knee injury, and he only serves as center insurance for 2009-10.
Considering he's big and slow and this is a club built around a lot of athletic types, he just isn't a good fit. The only way Hunter sees legitimate court time is if Anderson just can't play anymore, and we don't think that's the case. In other words, don't expect Hunter to be more than a bit player showcased during lopsided wins and losses.
Hunter has proven to be a very capable back-up in the NBA and will immediately jump into that role behind starter Marcus Camby. Hunter won't be a viable fantasy player, unless Camby goes down for an extended period, and even then he would remain limited to supplying minimal points, rebounds, and blocks.
In 19 minutes per game, Hunter averaged career highs with 6.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He shot an amazing 60.1% from the field over the season. Hunter is always near the top of the league in blocks per 48 minutes. He showed near the end of the 2005-06 campaign that he can successfully play along side Dalembert to form one of the tallest front courts in the NBA.
Hunter had a chance to start in Orlando last season, but was ineffective and fell out of their plans. The Suns aren’t strong at center with only Jake Voskhul ahead of him on the depth chart. However, coach Mike D’Antoni will use Amaré Stoudemire at the five depending on matchups and circumstance. Expect Voskhul to start with Stoudemire seeing minutes and Hunter getting 10-12 a night.
Hunter made the most of his minutes last season. He's a big man that will be relegated to the backup center position. Won't make an impact fantasy-wise.
