The veteran Dixon is a valuable backcourt scorer who will strengthen the Wizards' bench significantly. He split last season between the Raptors and Pistons, averaging 12.6 minutes, 5.0 points and, most importantly, 41.7 percent shooting from three. He's too small (6'3", 164) to guard most twos, which limits his playing time, but he's probably the best shooter on Eddie Jordan's bench, which could mean 18-20 minutes of playing time a night, and more until Arenas returns.
Dixon provided a little spark and some depth for the Raptors’ stretch run after being acquired from Portland, averaging 26.3 minutes, 11.1 points and 2.8 rebounds in 28 games with Toronto. Those minutes were available due to Garbajosa and Bargnani being on the shelf, however, and Dixon will be squeezed for playing time this season. If he can stick as the main backup to Parker at the two Dixon could come fairly close to repeating those numbers, but it’s more likely that his minutes and production will fall off, especially with Delfino added to the roster.
Dixon is looking to break out on his own after coming off the bench with the Wizards. While Sebastian Telfair and Martell Webster are the future for the Blazers, Dixon will definitely get more playing time than when with the Wizards as a pure shooting guard. His competition is Webster and Charles Smith. Despite coming off the bench for Washington, Dixon showed some glimpses of a starter especially a career-high 35 point game in win over the Bulls in the playoffs. His average minutes per game went down last season compared with 03-04 (20.8 to 16.7) causing his other numbers to go down. Dixon's field goal percentage though increased from 38.8 to 41.6
Dixon, who averaged 9.4 points in 20.8 minutes per game last season, will continue to come off the bench to give to Wizards a little offensive spark, though he's not much of a sharpshooter (.298) from three-point range. Dixon, who ranked tenth in the league in steals per 48 minutes, can also help out in that category, but his playing time figures to be sporadic and unless injuries hit the Wizards hard, it will be difficult to rely on him game-in, game-out, from a fantasy perspective.
Many considered his selection at #17 overall in the 2002 draft a bit of a reach. A better basketball player than physical talent, scouts questioned whether his game will translate to the NBA. Too small for shooting guard and too slow for point guard, Dixon doesn't really have a position, though the second year pro will likely see minutes in as backup role at both positions.
