Williams was waived by the Rockets on Monday, ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Williams came over to Houston in July as part of the Courtney Lee sign-and-trade, but the team decided to waive him before his 2012-13 salary became guaranteed Aug. 30. The 25-year-old power forward has averaged just 4.2 points and 3.4 rebounds in 137 career NBA games, but ESPN's Marc Stein said the Heat may have interest in Williams, as they are in the market for a big man.

Williams returns to the NBA after spending time playing in Israel and in the D-League. He’s a good interior presence on defense and could become a sneaky source of blocks if he gets regular playing time.
At only 23 years old, we already seem to know the drill with Williams: If he gets minutes, draft him for blocks. He's an athletic freak and still has the highest ceiling among Nets bigs not named Lopez. But injuries and off-court issues continue to stunt his progress. He spent time in the D-League last season, and his passion for the game has been questioned.
Williams really became the forgotten man in the Nets rotation late last year because he really struggled with on-the-ball defense and the offensive scheme. He clogged the lane offensively and was really a disadvantage at times because he took bad shots and didn't understand his role. He had one offensive outburst for 22 points in November, but never surpassed 16 points in any game after that. Unless there's an injury to Yi, Boone or Lopez, Williams probably won't get many minutes because Boone is better defensively and on the glass while Lopez is a smarter more capable offensive player. Yi is better all-around and has a bigger upside as well.
Williams is a wild card rookie that might potentially be one of the better shot-blockers in the NBA, or he mght not play at all. He had off-the-court problems in college that cut short his NCAA career, but his athleticism and defensive ability still earned him a first-round pick from the Nets. With Nenad Krstic still recovering from knee surgery, there’s an opportunity for Williams to create a role for himself if he has a good camp. In theory, he should excel in a running offense with Jason Kidd to provide him with easy dunk attempts. This makes him worth considering, but just keep in mind that nothing is assured with him; he could just as easily bust as blow up.
