ANALYSIS
The six-year NBA veteran and first-round pick of the Sixers in 2007 began last season as a member of the Rockets before being dealt to Chicago, where he finished the season and appeared in 33 games. A former 3-point Shootout champion, Cook is known for his perimeter shooting but his percentages tailed off over the past two seasons after shooting 42.2 percent from deep for Oklahoma City in 2010-11.

Cook is a three-point specialist and little else. He received extra minutes last season (17.4 mpg) when James Harden went down with an injury. But even though shooting the long ball is his game, he still only hit 34.6 percent from downtown.
Cook played as a reserve last season and that's where he'll step in again this season. He hit 42.2 percent of his three-pointers in about 14 minutes a game. Unless injuries hit, Cook's fantasy potential is limited. Even then, his upside is limited to three-pointers.
Cook was a big disappointment last season with the Heat. The Thunder, though, will take a flier on a player in the final year of his contract, who has shown the ability to hit the 3-point shot in the past. Cook could earn minutes if he finds his long-range shot. If not, he could be bought out of his contract.
The Heat are looking for Cook to expand his game some. He's a threat from behind the arc, but needs to diversify his scoring. Fearful that teams can defend his wide open jumpers, they've had him work on ballhandling and decision making throughout the summer. Conventional speculation among the local media had president Pat Riley looking for a another point guard, but it looks like the Heat will try to get by with what they have in house. Cook is in a position to be a combo guard, backing up both Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers. Much like James Jones, he can spread the defense and that will keep him in the rotation.
A rookie from Ohio State a year ago, Cook saw his minutes increase when Dwyane Wade went down for the season. He can shoot the ball and should get a few more looks from three with a healthy Dwyane Wade and the addition of Michael Beasley. Cook could emerge as a sixth man type of player for the Heat -- should look to him for instant offense off the bench.
Cook looks to have the best shot at seeing the court of all of the rookies, and his role as a perimeter-shooting specialist could get him more minutes as the season progresses.
