Hayward was waived by the Pelicans Sunday, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Hayward never appeared likely to make the Pelicans' roster, and an unfortunate respiratory infection in training camp sealed that outcome for the former Marquette standout, who saw action with the Rockets and Wolves last season. He may return to the D-League or sign a contract overseas in hopes of returning to an NBA roster in the future.

Haywood saw action in only 26 games last season and averaged 5.4 minutes. Don't expect a big change this season. He played a D-League stint last season and could see time again with Tulsa this year.
The Thunder landed Hayward in a December trade with the Timberwolves. Hayward played 42 games with Minnesota last season, averaging 3.8 points and 1.7 rebounds in 10.0 minutes per game as a rookie. He likely won't get off the bench much for the Thunder this season. Although, Hayward is officially the only other small forward on the roster after Kevin Durant, James Harden and Thabo Sefolosha will spell Durant at the 3.
Minnesota acquired Heyward, the 30th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, in a draft day trade with Washington. He's a tough, hard-working small forward who is a bit undersized for his position but makes up for it with his hustle. He could develop into a solid bench player for Minnesota. However, he's unlikely to get significant minutes.
