Grant was brought to the Suns in order to bolster the defense and provide depth at the center and forward positions. In 16.5 minutes per game last season, he shot a good 49.3% and grabbed 3.7 rebounds per game, though his points per game were down to 3.8. Still, Grant has a proven track record, with career averages of 10.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, and if he logs significant playing time, he could return to these levels. Since Phoenix has a tendency to tweak its line-ups to go big or small depending on the opponent, Grant's season could have a lot of up and down games.
With the change in address comes a change in position for Grant, who will no longer be required to play center full time, though now he’ll be put through the rigors of guarding all those good power forwards in the Western Conference like Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan and Elton Brand. Grant suffered significant drops in points (-3.3 ppg) and rebounds (-1.6 rpg) last season, but still remains a good shooter (49.1 percent FG, 74.7 percent FT) at center.
Grant is a very consistent 10 pt, 10 rebound per night player. He’ll log his 30+ minutes every night, and will never be accused of giving less than 110% percent. His value lies in the little things he does, many of which do not show up in the box scores and won’t help your fantasy team. With Grant, you know what you’re getting, and you could do much worse at the depleted center position. He should also qualify as a forward in your league, but his value is at center.
