The best three-point shooter on the team, Kapono was signed shortly before the season to help stretch defenses to open up the post game for Bynum and Gasol. Kapono is a career 44 percent three-point shooter. If he can reach the levels he did five years ago, when he shot 51 percent from long-range, he'll be an asset for the Lakers, but not for most fantasy purposes since he is purely a specialist. It's possible he could have value in very deep leagues.
There’s an outside chance that Kapono could be a regular part of the rotation backing up Iguodala and Turner, but, even if he did get more playing time than Nocioni and Meeks, it’s unlikely he’ll play enough to be of use in anything but the deepest of fantasy leagues.
Kapono will serve as the team's primary three-point threat, but will most likely see his minutes coming off the bench behind Iguodala and Young.
Kapono struggled in his first season in Toronto, as often as not being an afterthought in the offense. He was still deadly from the outside, hitting 48.3% of his three point attempts, but his inability to create his own shot limited his chances, and the Raptors lack a player like Dwyane Wade who can break down a defense and then dish to the open man. The team will work harder to find a way to get him looks, as they need long range threats to help soften up the middle of the defense for Bosh and O'Neal, but don't count on Kapono duplicating his '06-'07 numbers again.
Kapono had an astoundingly good year from the outside in ’06-’07, sinking 108 three point shots on just 210 attempts. That was good for the fourth-best three-point percentage in league history (51.4%) and earned him a sizable raise in free agency. Odds are a few of those shots will clank off the rim this time around, but that doesn’t mean his fantasy vale will necessarily dip. In the Raptors’ offense, Kapono’s primary job will be to get open outside the arc and wait for a kick-out from a penetrating Ford or Calderon, or an outlet pass from Bosh, and open shots should be very plentiful. He won’t contribute much in other categories, but Kapono should be able to top last year’s 10.9 PPG, and he could be among the league leaders with 200 made three pointers if things go well.
Kapono will see very limited action and does little besides contribute a few buckets on the offensive end as a strong perimeter shooter.
Kapono proved he was one of the most underrated shooters in the game last year, averaging 8.5 points in just 18 minutes per game and hitting 41.2 percent of his three-point attempts. The problem is that shooting is about all Kapono can do. He's not much of a rebounder, passer or slasher. But there is always room for a player who can light it up from the outside. However, the former Bruin is without a team right now since the Bobcats have yet to re-sign him.
Kapono will backup Ricky Davis and Ira Newble at small forward. There’s little chance he’ll have value, but can hit the outside shoot.
