RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014-15

Subscribe now to see our 2014-15 outlook.

2013-14

Turiaf averaged just 1.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in 65 games last season, and while he's unlikely to have a fantasy impact in most leagues, he'll provide the Timberwolves with a much-needed high energy backup for the frontcourt. He saw just 10.8 minutes per contest with the Clippers last season, but could see a modest increase in playing time, particularly if Kevin Love and Nikola Pekovic struggle with injuries again.

2012-13

Turiaf is a superior rebounder to Hollins and has more experience playing big minutes on a good team. That being said, he will have to fight with Hollins for minutes backing up DeAndre Jordan and that means his numbers probably won’t end up being too desirable come the end of the season.

2011-12

Turiaf averaged 4.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in just 18 minutes per game with the Knicks last year. His blocks numbers are intriguing, but Turiaf is strictly a backup. Unless McGee gets injured, Turiaf only provides slight value in very deep leagues.

2010-11

On a team with no shortage of offensive options, Turiaf can fill the role of “energy player who doesn’t need shots to be happy.” He’s not a great rebounder, but is a good defender and very good shot-blocker – qualities that have been missing from the Knicks frontcourt since Marcus Camby was traded. He is undersized for a true center at 6-10, 250, so his minutes may be somewhat limited – especially if Timofey Mozgov lives up to the hype.

2009-10

The Gonzaga product and former Laker carved out a niche in his first season with the Warriors, providing the team with a gritty big man it was lacking in previous seasons. When looking at Turiaf’s numbers from last season (5.9 points, 4.6 rebounds) nothing screams out fantasy contributor, but he offers consistency across the board. In only 21 minutes per game last season, Turiaf helped out fantasy owners in multiple categories, including field-goal percentage (50.8), free-throw percentage (79.0) and blocks (2.1). His blocks per game were third best in the NBA last season. He also managed to dish out 2.1 assists per game, a healthy amount of dimes for a big man seeing limited action. He showed the potential to post better numbers in his 26 starts (8.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg), but coach Don Nelson will likely opt to use Turiaf as an “energy” player off the bench this season. With his consistent hustle and high basketball IQ, Turiaf should see time spelling both Andris Biedrins at center and Anthony Randolph at power forward. And while his overall production won’t bring home a championship, Turiaf will be a cheap source of blocks late in the draft.

2008-09

Turiaf was an "energy" player for the Los Angeles Lakers last year and will fill the same role this year for the Warriors. He should be one of the first bigs off the bench and his role will be clearly defined - rebound and defend the paint. Turiaf doesn't have much of an offensive game, but he did average 10.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in twenty-one starts last year for the Lakers. Turiaf will begin the season backing up Andris Biedrins at center but could also some time at power forward.

2007-08

Turiaf will serve as the last forward off the bench this season – he saw action last year due to the team’s rash of injuries in the frontcourt. When he plays, Turiaf can be an effective rebounder and scorer, but he does not receive nearly enough playing time to warrant fantasy consideration. His per 48 minute numbers (16.9 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.4 blocks) are impressive, but the French forward averaged only 15.1 minutes per game last year and may see even less this year if the Lakers’ frontcourt is completely healthy.

2006-07

Turiaf will be a solid frontcourt role player for the Lakers, but should not warrant any fantasy consideration unless Lamar Odom and Vladimir Radmanovic are beset with injuries.

2005-06

Turiaf is out for the year after undergoing surgery on his enlarged heart.
