The addition of Baron Davis will make everyone better, especially Cheaney, who has made a career out of hitting the mid-range jump shot. A career 46.7% shooter from the field, Calbert will help the Warriors as a scoring threat off the bench. He could be the odd man out in the rotation, though, as consistent minutes will be hard to come by playing behind Jason Richardson, Mike Dunleavy and Mickael Pietrus.
He’s one of several veterans (Cliff Robinson, Derek Fisher, Adonal Foyle, Dale Davis) expected to help coach Mike Montgomery transition to the NBA. He’ll get backup minutes at both shooting guard and small forward. Jason Richardson and Mike Dunleavy Jr., who are both expected to log significant minutes, are the starters at those positions. Given the lack of shooters in the NBA, guys like Cheaney (46.8% FG) should always find a spot in a rotation.
Cheaney will get regular mintues in the Warriors' rotation backing up Jason Richardson at shooting guard and Mike Dunleavy Jr. at small forward. He can stroke it (46.8% FG), but will not be a lead scoring option. Cheaney will have value if the starters go down.
