Francisco Elson

The lanky, athletic free agent signee is one of the league's premier shotblockers. The Bucks' reserve frontcourt is sub-par, and Elson may be the best of the bunch. However, considering his length and explosiveness, he's not as strong a rebounder as he should be.

Elson recently broke an orbital bone while playing in Europe and is expected to back with the Spurs in early October. Elson is limited offensively, as he averaged just five ppg. However, he did contribute 4.8 rpg in just 19 minutes per game. Expect Elson to again share time with Fabricio Oberto. Elson will get more playing time when the Spurs play against more athletic centers. With this time share, don't expect Elson to make much of a contribution to a fantasy roster.

Center is the only position that changes in San Antonio these days. They traded Rasho Nesterovic and let Nazr Mohammed go to free agency, and will go with a cheaper tandem of Elson and Jackie Butler. Whichever one wins the job won’t be getting a whole lot of playing time and even less scoring chances. Elson’s strong and can run the floor, but his offensive game is limited. And he’s prone to fouls (2.9 per game in 21.9 mpg).

While he’s a hard worker and provides a good practice body Elson is nowhere close to being a fantasy threat. The acquisition of Eduardo Najera and coach George Karl’s emphasis on a more up-tempo game will further limit Elson’s minutes this season. Bottom line, unless Camby AND Nenê get hurt at the same time Francisco will most likely never even see even 15 minutes on any given night this season. Overall we expect 2-3 points and 1-2 rebounds a night from this seven footer in very limited minutes.

The arrival of Kenyon Martin is sure to cut into the small amount of time Elson spent on the floor. However, if injuries plague Camby, Nene, and/or Martin then Elson could see significant court time and has already proved he can start and contribute at this level.

Another project for the Nuggets to work on. Decent size, moves ok, but needs touch and polish. He'll most likely make the team's final roster as the third string center with absolutely no fantasy value.
