The Warriors acquired Gadzuric for his expiring contract and little else. He’s a poor shooter both from the field (43 percent last season) and from the free-throw line (40 percent last year). If Gadzuric is playing significant minutes, the Warriors are in trouble. With the injury to Louis Amundson, it looks like Gadzuric will get some run off the bench, but nothing too significant.
Gadzuric played in 67 games in 2008, averaging 4.0 points and 2.4 rebounds. His role expanded when Andrew Bogut missed the second half of the season due to injury. He’s still just a role player off of the bench and it’s not likely he’ll reach anything more than that.
There isn't much to differentiate him from Elson. Both are tall, skinny, and athletic, though Elson is the more reliable defender while Gadzuric is the better finisher. The latter is good for a spotless field goal percentage, but won't log enough minutes to amass stats elsewhere.
Gadzuric is probably better suited for power forward than for center, but he'll be called upon to play center a little bit. Defense has never been his strong suit, though he blocks a fair number of shots for the amount of playing time he gets. Gadzuric is a high-energy guy who didn't see much playing time until the end of the season.
Gadzuric was a rebounding machine in 2004-05, averaging 8.3 boards in just 22.0 minutes per game. He signed a six-year deal in the offseason, so he’s in the Bucks’ plans, but the addition of No. 1 overall pick Andrew Bogut will alter his role. General manager Larry Harris sees both big men playing on the floor at the same time, suggesting we’ll see Gadzuric getting some of Joe Smith’s minutes at power forward.
Gadzuric was a bright spot for the Bucks in 2003-04 and they are hoping he can step up this season. With the departure of Brian Skinner, the Bucks have an opening at the starting center position and Gadzuric may fill it. He provides the Bucks with a spark on offense but is lacking on defense other than shot blocking. It's likely that he and Dan Santiago will split time at center this season.
Gadzuric played quite a bit for a rookie last season and held his own. He should be in line for more playing time this season with the trade of Ervin Johnson. Gadzuric is more of a high energy guy and won't get too many points.
