Lampe will spell Yao and Mutombo for a few minutes per game if he makes the team. The 21-year old was considered an intriguing prospect a few seasons ago, but he hasn't developed and could be out of the league soon.
Lampe is buried deep on the bench and won't see meaningful playing time unless there are several injuries that hit the Hornets' frontcourt. Lampe has talent to eventually become good, but he still needs to mature his skills before we see any significant production from him. If he ever does amount to anything, it'll be in a few years.
Lampe is only 19 and still learning the NBA game, but showed up trimmer at training camp and has played hard in preseason. His size – and the team’s need for size – could give Lampe more minutes than we thought if he proves himself in preseason. He won’t be in the team’s top eight rotational players, but should play more than the 10.7 minutes he played in 2003-04.
The 18-year old Pole is a bit raw but has been compared to a young Dirk Nowitzki because of his 6-11 frame and solid outside touch. While that is clearly a reach, he has been a pleasant surprise in camp and should be watched for future seasons.
