ANALYSIS
Amundson entered training camp on a fully-guaranteed deal for 2016-17, but the contract's low cap hit made cutting him an easy pill for the team to swallow. There's a chance that the 33-year-old is signed later this season by a team in need of some veteran depth in the frontcourt.

Amundson, a nine-year veteran of the NBA, played a career-high 21 minutes per game last season on the lowly Knicks. If you're a seasoned fantasy basketball player, there's probably not much more that needs to be said. Minutes are king in fantasy basketball. If a player doesn't get enough minutes, they can't get the stats they need to be valuable in fantasy. For standard leagues, most players have to play at least 26 minutes per game to have enough opportunity to collect fantasy-relevant production. Amundson isn't the kind of player who gets 26 mpg, and that's not going to change this season. In his career season, Amundson averaged 6.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.5 steals, and 1.6 blocks. The blocks numbers are impressive, and it makes you wonder what kind of production Amundson would put up if he were getting big minutes, but that's not going to happen on the Knicks this season. They signed Robin Lopez to start at center, and they'll have a tandem of rookie Kristaps Porzingis and veteran Kyle O'Quinn holding down the rest of the frontcourt minutes most nights. Amundson has an awesome Steven Seagal ponytail, so it's disappointing that he doesn't get more facetime on TV, but the fact remains that he is a role player, and he'll only be of use in the deepest of leagues this season.
Signed with the Knicks for the remainder of the season in January of 2015.
Amundson provides defense off the bench as he averaged 10.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per 36 minutes in a reserve role with the Pacers last season while playing 12.6 minutes per game. He's more valuable in real basketball than fantasy basketball as a result. He may also get less playing time in Minnesota with a glut of front court big bodies ahead of him. Andrei Kirilenko and Greg Stiemsma will likely be ahead of him on the depth chart and counted on for their defense, which may leave Amundson with a limited role.
Amundson was traded to the Pacers during training camp, with Brandon Rush being sent to the Warriors. He should provide more depth for the Pacers’ frontcourt, but he’s unlikely to see much time.
Amundson offers much more to an actual team than a fantasy team, as he was a valuable bench player for the Suns last season. His per-48 minute numbers are decent (15.2 points, 14.2 rebounds, 3.0 blocks), but he should only be considered if Biedrins and Lee are out, and even then only for blocks and rebounds.
The hustling Amundsen emerged as a fan favorite and played in a career-high 13.7 minutes per game thanks in part to Amar'e Stoudemire's eye injury. He's the kind of high-energy player who could have a surprising season in the Suns offense, but he's too far down the depth chart to get the chance.
Amundson is a reserve who might play ten minutes a game if he shows some promise in training camp. He has no fantasy value at this time.
