August 14, 2016
Bairstow dislocated his shoulder while playing for the Australia national team in Sunday's game against Venezuela at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
ANALYSIS
Fortunately, the dislocated shoulder popped back in before requiring medical treatment. Bairstow's scans didn't show any other major structural damage, so he could return to action before the Olympics conclude.

2013
The Bulls took Bairstow in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft, and even though he made the team, he was anchored to the bench for much of his rookie season. He played in only 18 games and averaged 0.6 points, 0.4 rebounds, 0.1 assists, 0.1 steals, and 0.1 blocks in four minutes per game. Although he shot a solid 80 percent from the free-throw line, he shot only 21 percent from the field. The Bulls remain a very deep team up front as they drafted another frontcourt player in Bobby Portis this year, so it's unlikely that Bairstow will see much playing time again this season even if they were to suffer an injury or two.
Unfortunately for Bairstow, the Bulls are deep, especially in the frontcourt. The rookie out of New Mexico will be fighting for playing time behind All-Stars and vets who have a firm grasp on their minutes. At 6-10 and 255 pounds, Bairstow is a tough, physical player who will certainly impress coach Tom Thibodeau with his effort, if nothing else. In his senior season, he averaged 20.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.5 blocks in 33 minutes per game. Bairstow has a diverse offensive repertoire, with the ability to post-up or threaten opponents with a reliable mid-range jumper. There are concerns with his footwork and ability to defend at the NBA level, but reports out of the summer league have been positive for the big man. The true challenge for Bairstow will be cracking the rotation, which means he'll have to convince the ever-insatiable Thibodeau to trust him.
