Mejri agreed to a contract Tuesday with the Liaoning Flying Leopards of the Chinese Basketball Association, Emiliano Carchia of Sportando.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 7-foot-2 big man reportedly agreed to a month-long deal, which will allow him to compete in the East Asia Superleague before potentially returning stateside for NBA training camps. Mejri has made 204 appearances for the Mavericks over parts of the past four seasons, but it's unclear if Dallas or any other team has interest in bringing the 33-year-old as a depth center.

2015
Mejri found himself buried on the depth chart once again for much of the 2017-18 season, averaging just 12.0 minutes across 61 games. That meant he was essentially a non-factor for Fantasy purposes, evidenced by his meager production of just 3.5 points and 4.0 rebounds. The Mavericks added star center DeAndre Jordan in the offseason, and also bring back Dirk Nowitzki and Dwight Powell, who also see time at the position. As a result, Mejri's role is highly unlikely to increase and could actually decline a bit considering Jordan's presence. Continue to avoid him for Fantasy purposes.
Mejri held down a reserve center role for much of the 2016-17 campaign, playing in a career-high 73 games. He wasn't much of a Fantasy threat with averages of 2.9 points and 4.2 rebounds across 12.4 minutes, which shouldn't change much moving forward. The Mavericks still have Nerlens Noel starting at center and they also tend to give Dwight Powell time at the position as well, which should keep Mejri in a similar role once again. Despite being in just his second season, Mejri is already 30 and shouldn't be expected to make strides in his development, thus the Mavericks likely aren't going to give him a ton of minutes while going through somewhat of a rebuild.
Often finding himself in and out of the rotation on a near-nightly basis, Mejri closed his rookie season with averages of 3.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks across 34 games. The 30-year-old averaged a double-double per-36 minutes, and while he won't come anywhere near that minutes load this season, he could be set for a larger role as the backup to injury-prone center Andrew Bogut. Mejri scored efficiently around the rim last season (62.8% FG), but he registered only 78 field-goal attempts, 31 of which were dunks. He projects as a capable option to spell Bogut for stretches, but Mejri is unlikely to be a relevant fantasy commodity in his second NBA season unless Bogut suffers an extended absence.
The Mavericks signed the Tunisian center to a fully-guaranteed rookie contract in the offseason as they amassed a solid crop of frontcourt players, including veterans Zaza Pachulia, Samuel Dalembert, and JaVale McGee. Mejri is a 7-foot-2 center that has previously spent time with Real Madrid, averaging 4.3 points and 2.1 rebounds in 34 games with the club. He also put together an impressive turn with the Tunisian National Team this summer in Afrobasket 2015. Despite the guaranteed money, Mejri will have to fight for a spot on the Dallas roster and then earn minutes in coach Rick Carlisle's rotation.
