Douglas rebounded from a dismal 2011-12 season, splitting time between Houston and Sacramento, averaging 7.5 points and 2.1 assists in 18 minutes per game last season. He'll replace Jarrett Jack as Golden State's backup at point guard, but we don't see him getting the kind of run Jack got last season as Stephen Curry's backup. Douglas' playmaking skills are nowhere near the level of Jack's, and his penchant for shooting isn't what the Warriors need behind Curry. He's a combo guard with a shooter's mentality in a point guard body. As a tough defender, he'll serve a purpose, but it's unlikely the Warriors will look to him for a sustained period of time if Curry were to get hurt.
Douglas can handle the ball a little bit and knock down the three.
It’s hard to know what the Knicks have in Toney Douglas. At times, he was one of Mike D’Antoni’s most valuable players – like when he scored 30 points and hit 5-of-9 three pointers to key a win over the Bulls in early November. At others – like in New York’s first-round playoff loss to the Celtics – he was absolutely dismal, and fell behind journeymen Anthony Carter and Roger Mason Jr. in D’Antoni’s rotation by the end of the series. After the season came what may be an explanation for Douglas’ inconsistency: he had surgery to repair a shoulder injury that may have troubled him for much of the year. The Knicks seem to be planning to use Douglas as a scorer next season, while leaning on rookie Iman Shumpert to take over some of the backup point guard responsibility. That could be a good thing for his fantasy value; Douglas is streaky, but capable of filling it up when he’s on (9 of 12 from three for 29 points against Memphis on March 17), and in D’Antoni’s offense, he’ll get plenty of looks.
A late first-round selection in the 2009 NBA Draft, Douglas didn’t get much playing time until the Knicks finally gave up on Chris Duhon and Nate Robinson. When his opportunity finally came, he made the most of it, proving to be an adept scorer with quick hands – he averaged over 12 points and 1.1 steals in March and April. This season he’ll be Felton’s primary backup, but could log minutes at shooting guard as well.
The Knicks missed out on most of the top point guards at the top of the 2009 draft, but may have gotten a steal late in the first round in Florida State's Douglas. He was used as a lead guard at FSU, averaging over 20 points per game for the Seminoles. This season, he could earn significant playing time as backup to Chris Duhon.
