Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Cheatham was born in 1995 in Phoenix, Arizona and initially attended St. Mary's High School. He transferred to South Mountain High School after his freshman year at St. Mary's. After high school, Cheatham decided to attend San Diego State over offers he received from Arizona State, New Mexico, Georgetown and Utah. He suffered a personal tragedy in December 2018 when his younger brother (Stewart) was killed. Cheatham keeps Stewart's obituary with him to read before games. Fans can follow the Arizona native on Twitter (@1KingZ4). Cheatham moved from Arizona to San Diego State to play college basketball for coach Steve Fisher. He had to sit out the 2014-15 season after breaking his foot. In his redshirt freshman season, the 6-foot-6 wing provided 7.9 points and 5.4 rebounds in 38 appearances (26 starts). He had two double-doubles, but he saw his playing time curtailed toward the end of the season. Cheatham opened the 2016-17 season as a starter and had three double-doubles in a six-game span. He averaged 9.1 points and 6.3 rebounds. He once again finished the season as a reserve and decided to transfer to Arizona State after the campaign. Cheatham sat out the 2017-18 season and looked ready to gobble up rebounds in his return. He led the Pac-12 with 10.3 rebounds to go along with 12.2 points and 3.2 assists. Cheatham also produced a triple-double that consisted of 14 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists during a 83-71 win over Texas Southern in December 2018, and he also had two games of at least 20 rebounds. The wing had 14 points and 10 rebounds in a win over St. John's in the NCAA Tournament. Ultimately, he declared for the NBA Draft at the end of the 2018-19 season and while he went undrafted, he signed with the New Orleans Pelicans just before the 2019 NBA Summer League.
