FanDuel NBA: Friday Value Plays

FanDuel NBA: Friday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NBA series.

Point Guard

Ricky Rubio, $6,300 - Rubio is coming off a nine fantasy-point dud and that had his price drop a little while having his ownership plummet. Rubio has been up and down as of late but the upside is certainly there with games of 33, 42.4, and 33.7 in three of his last five. Russell Westbrook is not an elite defender and that coupled with the Thunder's up-tempo style of play has them giving up the third-most fantasy points to opposing point guards this season. Look for Rubio to bounce back from last game's debacle (it was against the Spurs) and be a nice pivot from the top-tier players at this position.

Ish Smith, $6,700 - There was a small string of games in the middle of February that Smith went cold during but he's been extremely hot over the last two weeks. His 26.9 fantasy point performance Wednesday was his worst in seven games showing what a nice floor he's established. The matchup with the Brooklyn Nets couldn't be any better as they've given up the most fantasy points to opposing point guards over their last five games. This should be a competitive game for the 76ers meaning Smith should easily see over 30 minutes of playing time.

Shooting Guard

Lance Stephenson, $4,200 - Mario Chalmers not only suffered a season-ending injury by rupturing his Achilles' Wednesday night, he was cut Thursday in order to open up a roster spot for the short-handed Grizzlies. The team sent for point guard Briante Weber to join them in time for the game Friday night and even if he makes it he won't be used to playing with his teammates. That could thrust Stephenson into a more prominent role if the Grizzlies decide to ask him to run the point. Before a dud against Boston, Stephenson had three straight games of 30.9, 23 and 21.5 fantasy points. A home matchup against the Pelicans (who give up the most fantasy points to opposing shooting guards and are favorable against point guards) is a nice spot to be in.

Victor Oladipo, $7,000 - Oladipo isn't exactly cheap tonight but he's also a player that should priced close to, if not above the $8,000 mark. Sacramento will be without their big inside presence in DeMarcus Cousins and as a team they've given up the fifth most fantasy points to opposing shooting guards. Oladipo has shown the ability to be a complete player by averaging over 16 points per game to go along with over four rebounds and four assists. He has at least 30 fantasy points in four of his last five and this should be a high-scoring affair with the Kings giving up a league-worst 109.6 points per game this season.

Small Forward

Matt Barnes, $4,800 - Barnes was not a complete bust the other night but his owners were likely expecting more than 23.4 fantasy points out of him with the Grizzlies lacking much scoring power. If the team is without Mike Conley and Zach Randolph again tonight, it'll be a good time to go back to the well with Barnes. It's worth noting that even in a blowout the other night he still logged 34 minutes and took a team-high 16 shots with 11 of those being three-pointers. He contributes a little in every category but again his value lies in the availability of his teammates tonight.

Jae Crowder, $6,100 - With DeMarcus Cousins out, Rudy Gay at $6,600 is likely going to be the chalk play at the position tonight and rightfully so. But if you're looking for a pivot for GPPs, take a look at Crowder. He has been remarkably consistent this season and has scored at least 20 fantasy points in each of his last 12 games this season. An up-tempo matchup with the Rockets is favorable considering they've given up the most fantasy points this season to opposing small forwards and the second most over their last five games. Crowder has the unique ability to fill up the stat sheet and doesn't need to completely rely on scoring to have a big game.

Power Forward

Quincy Acy, $3,700 - As noted, DeMarcus Cousins is out tonight opening up the opportunity for the other big men in Sacramento. Right now it appears Acy is at the top of that pecking order in front of Kosta Koufos and Willie Cauley-Stein. He has at least 14.7 fantasy points in five of his last six games but it's worth noting that Cousins leaves behind 11.5 rebounds and over 20 shots per game. Acy has over 20 fantasy points in three of his last eight games (all with Cousins) showing why he's a decent punt play at the position tonight. With Nikola Vucevic already ruled out, Jason Smith ($3,500) and his matchup with the Lakers is another viable punt option.

JaMychal Green, $6,400 - The though process going into this column was to mention Green but not go overboard about him being a really obvious, chalky pick in cash games tonight. However, the price increase from being $4,000 only a few games ago along with the potential matchup against Anthony Davis should have many owners jumping ship on him. This pick totally hinges on the availability of Zach Randolph although it's very possible they start both big men tonight if Randolph laces them up. Green has shown that he probably should have been getting more minutes since Marc Gasol went down and has 35.6 and 48 fantasy points over his last two contests.

Center

Andrew Bogut, $4,900 - The forgotten man of the best offense in basketball, Bogut has been an excellent source of value for DFS owners as of late. Even with only 14 minutes Wednesday night he was able to accumulate 18.8 fantasy points. While that's not a great score for the price it was his lowest total in his last five games. He has games over 30 fantasy points in two of those last five and has a nice matchup tonight. The Trail Blazers give up the 11th most fantasy points to opposing centers and Bogut should easily eclipse the 14 minutes he played Wednesday.
