Yahoo DFS Basketball: Saturday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

There's no shortage of options in the Saturday evening slate, with eight of the day's nine games fitting into the late session. Five of those are inter-conference matchups, which means some of the league's best will get to strut their stuff against opponents they rarely get to see. The night's top value plays, as well as some guys to avoid, can be found below.

GUARDS

Brandon Knight, PHO at PHI ($16): Knight has started to find the range offensively, averaging 24.5 points, 4.5 assists and 3.0 made 3-pointers per game in his last two. His offensive numbers figure to stay elevated against the 76ers, who have allowed 108.4 points per game this season. The risk is minimal at just $16, but the reward could be very high for an explosive scorer against a poor opponent.

Kemba Walker, CHA at NO ($41): Walker's value comes mostly from points and assists, and he should get plenty of both against a Pelicans defense that has allowed 107.4 points per game this season. He has scored at least 21 points in every game since the opener while playing 33 minutes per game as Charlotte's main source of offense. Don't be surprised to see Walker in the running for the most fantasy points at the guard position at the end of the night.

Guard to Avoid

Dwyane Wade, CHI at LAC ($30): Wade has slowed down in the secondary stats since coming to Chicago, averaging a career-low 4.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He has the ball in his hands much less than he did in Miami, which is why Wade is dishing out 1.6 fewer dimes than his previous career low, and he has failed to reach 20 points in nine of his past 11. The lack of production figures to continue on the road against the league's second-best defensive team.

FORWARDS

Andrew Wiggins, MIN at MEM ($31): Wiggins has scored over 50.0 fantasy points in two of his past three games, and he has outperformed his $31 valuation all season with an average of 36.5 fantasy points per game. The 2014 first overall pick is blossoming offensively in his third season, but his price hasn't caught up to his abilities yet. While Memphis has an excellent defensive reputation, Wiggins shouldn't have a problem piling up numbers against a unit that has allowed 102.4 points per game after playing at least 37 minutes in six straight.

Terrence Jones, NO vs. CHA ($15): Jones was unfazed by Anthony Davis' return from a quad injury Friday against the Blazers, scoring 37.4 fantasy points for his third straight performance over 34.5. He has stepped up both his scoring and rebounding with a bigger role of late, and still played a hefty 31 minutes Friday even with Davis seeing 37. Another big game should be in the cards against a Hornets team that has allowed opponents to snag 46.1 boards per game.

Forward to Avoid

Blake Griffin, LAC vs. CHI ($41): Griffin's rebounding is a big part of his hefty price, but he has just one double-double in his past four games. Another quiet game is likely against a Bulls team that has allowed only 97.8 points per game while outrebounding opponents by the second-best margin in the league at plus-6.8.

CENTER

Bismack Biyombo, ORL vs. DAL ($12): Biyombo's rebounding has been excellent all season, as he has grabbed at least eight boards in all but one game since the opener, and he managed seven in the other one. He should feast on the glass at both ends against a Mavericks team that has been outrebounded by 4.9 per game this season. Plus, the center should be given a bit more leeway on offense with fellow big man Nikola Vucevic struggling of late. Biyombo has a lot going for him considering he only costs $12.

Hassan Whiteside, MIA at WAS ($41): Whiteside has been dominant of late, topping 48.9 fantasy points in four of his past five, and that hot streak should continue against a Wizards team that has allowed 105.3 points per game. With ridiculous averages of 16.0 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per contest, Whiteside should be able to nicely complement what is expected to be a strong offensive output. He averages the most fantasy points per game of any center available, and should once again top the rankings at the position.

Center to Avoid

Marc Gasol, MEM vs. MIN ($31): Gasol has rebounded poorly for a center, averaging only 6.0 boards per game, and his struggles in that department should continue against a Timberwolves team that allows a league-low 39.5 rebounds per game. With so many more affordable options in better matchups, there's no point in shelling out over $30 for the veteran Spaniard.
