Tuesday's six-game slate is a little light on the elite options but has plenty of second-level superstars. There's also an appealing selection of value at or near the minimum price, making it an intriguing lineup-building night. Here's a look at where the dollars might be best spent at both ends of the spectrum:
GUARDS
John Wall, WAS vs. ORL ($44): Wall has scored over 40 fantasy points in four straight games and will face a Magic defense that's surrendered 7.2 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game to point guards, both bottom-10 figures. Wall also blasted this same Orlando squad for 51.9 fantasy points on the strength of 26 points and 10 assists on Nov. 25.
Troy Daniels, MEM vs. PHI ($10): Daniels has scored between 24.4 and 46.4 fantasy points over his last four games, and he could be the steal of the slate because his minimum price. He has 31 and 29 points over the last two games, respectively, and is getting more than enough minutes to return excellent value on a price that's considerably lagging behind his outstanding production.
Guard to Avoid
Elfrid Payton, ORL at WAS ($19): Payton has been relegated to the bench in favor of veteran D.J. Augustin and has scored between 10.2 and 17.3 fantasy points over the last three contests, with single-digit scoring outputs in each game. He's still received over 20 minutes in each outing as a reserve, but he seems to be stuck in a slump that makes him a definite avoid until he bounces back.
FORWARD
Gordon Hayward, UTA vs. PHO ($37): Hayward will be on the second game of a back-to-back, but he has largely taken the reins of the offense in the absence of George Hill (toe), tallying a team-high 28.4 percent usage rate when the latter has been off the floor this season. Not factoring in Monday's game against the Lakers, Hayward has scored between 37.0 and 51.6 fantasy points over the last four games, while putting up over 30 points in three of those contests. Hayward offers solid production in the rebounding and assist categories as well, and he faces a Suns defense that's surrendered the most fantasy points per game (44.41) to small forwards.
Jeff Green, ORL at WAS ($10): Green has been producing off the bench behind the inconsistent Aaron Gordon, scoring 26.5 and 22.7 fantasy points over the last two games, respectively, and double-digit fantasy points in seven of the last eight overall. Green's minutes are also encouraging, as he's played over 20 minutes in 13 straight games. With a minimum price and a robust allotment of playing time, the veteran stands a good chance of providing a strong return on his low-risk cost.
Forward to Avoid
Taj Gibson, CHI at DET ($22): The Bulls will be playing their fourth game in five nights, and Gibson has already underwhelmed in the last two, scoring 17.3 and 18.7 fantasy points, respectively, thanks to a modest 10 total rebounds. With boards being an important component of Gibson's fantasy production, that latter nugget is concerning, and the heavy legs he's likely to have Tuesday certainly won't help in that regard. To top it off, he'll face a Pistons squad that's given up a league-low 16.2 points per game to power forwards, along with the seventh-fewest fantasy points (39.97).
CENTERS
Karl-Anthony Towns, MIN vs. SA ($41): Towns brings 50-fantasy point upside every time he takes the court, and he decimated the Knicks for 75.6 fantasy points on Nov. 30. While the Spurs profile very well statistically against centers this season, Pau Gasol has proven to be vulnerable defensively in recent years, and Towns' transcendent talent should be enough to produce another strong performance.
Bismack Biyombo, ORL at WAS ($12): Biyombo has moved into the first unit and has over 20 fantasy points in three of his last four games. He's posted double-digit boards in two of those contests and the Wizards are allowing seventh-most rebounds per game (15.2) to centers, along with the third-highest field-goal percentage (56.1). While Biyombo won't put up many shot attempts, he's capable of a double-digit scoring tally.
Center to Avoid
Tyson Chandler, PHO at UTA ($15): Chandler put up a dud his last time out against the Warriors, scoring just 14.8 fantasy points, and he'll have a tough matchup Tuesday, as the Jazz give up the fifth-fewest fantasy points per game (43.46) to centers with the Rudy Gobert patrolling the paint.
