| The NBA Champion Spurs drafted Brazilian center-forward Tiago Splitter with the 28th pick in the NBA draft. Both he and second round pick Marcus Williams are not expected to be on the Spurs roster this season, the San Antonio Express-News reports. Splitter will remain with his Spanish team Tau Ceramica while Williams will most likely play for the Spurs developmental team the Austin Toros. Michael Finley has decided to exercise the final year of his three-year contract and stay with the Spurs. Center Fabricio Oberto opted out of his final year of his deal, but said he wants to re-sign with the Spurs. The team plans to fully guarantee the contracts of Bruce Bowen and Robert Horry. The Spurs also say they will try and re-sign both Matt Bonner and Jacque Vaughn who become free agents on July 1. Expect the Spurs to start the season with the same lineup that won the NBA Championship. Tony Parker at the point, Michael Finley at shooting guard, Bruce Bowen at small forward, Tim Duncan at power forward and either Fabricio Oberto and Francisco Elson at center. The bench will consist of super sixth man Emmanuel Ginobili, Brent Barry, Jacque Vaughn and Robert Horry. |
