NHL Stanley Cup Observations: Sharks FINALLY play with the lead

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Brent Burns sure was fired up. First, an eff bomb in his live pre-game interview and then a goal a minute-four into the game. Wonder where we'd be if he'd done it a couple games earlier.
  • Martin Jones -- arrest the dude for grand larceny. He's the lynch pin in the Sharks' game and he's <beeping> good. 44 saves? He's the only reason they're even remotely in this series.

  • Funny thing happened on the way to gifting the Pens the Cup -- the Sharks' top-five regular-season point producers finally showed up. Or at least Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski did, along with Logan Couture. Did they just delay the inevitable?
  • A Pittsburgh pro team hasn't won a championship at home since 1960 -- that's more than 50 years. Tonight should have been the night to go down in history. Now, the win will come on the road.
  • Did Matt Murray get himself a case of the yips? Game 4, he wanted one goal back. Game 5, he could use a re-do on two. Stop dropping so early, young man. Good things DO NOT happen when you're on your knees. Seriously.
  • The Sharks finally played with the lead -- it just took five games to get there. Honest. Check the scores. They had one win in the series before Thursday and they'd never held the lead in this series. Their win came as a walk off -- they'd never actually played with the lead.
  • Melker Karlsson looks like stud out there with Logan Couture. Seriously. SO KEEP HIM THERE.
  • This series is way more exciting than the NBA championship. At least there's hockey in these games. There sure isn't any competition in the other.
