Training Camp Notes: Green gains starting role

Based on the preseason, it should be no surprise that Virgil Green has been named the Broncos' No. 1 tight end to open the season. Even though the team projects to be very run-heavy, head coach Gary Kubiak has a long history of getting production from his tight ends, making Green an upside draft pick as a TE2. He's currently being selected in about 25 percent of drafts, but when he does get chosen, his ADP is 175.

With all of the preseason games in the books, and teams having trimmed their rosters to 53 players, there won't be many major situations to cover, but there certainly are a few nuggets to get us ready for the end of draft season and also for the upcoming season.

• Speaking of tight ends, Jimmy Graham (knee) is uncertain to play in Week 1. It was telling that the Seahawks kept four tight ends on the roster, which seemed to indicate that there is concern about the veteran's availability, at least early in the season. He's currently being selected about 112 picks into fantasy drafts, but based on his age and the type of injury he suffered, that seems to be a pretty big risk to take with other talented tight ends available at that point of drafts. If he's unable to play in Week 1, Luke Willson becomes an interesting low-salary dart throw in DFS.

• Don't jump ship just yet on Justin Forsett, despite him being released by the Ravens Saturday, as ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the team could bring him back. It would make sense to bring him back after Week 1, when veteran salaries are no longer guaranteed. It's very likely that he'll either go undrafted, or be selected very late in fantasy drafts after his release, but in very deep leagues, he could be worth a roster spot in case he finds himself back in the mix at running back come Week 2.

• For the first time since Washington's rookie minicamp, Josh Doctson (Achilles) was a participant in practice. It would be difficult to think the rookie will have much of a role early in the season, but it's possible that he could become more involved as the season progresses. He's currently being drafted in about 33 percent of leagues with an ADP of 167, but he's best suited as an in-season waiver wire addition if it appears that he's headed toward an expanded role in the offense.

• It's possible that the Ravens' special teams will get a boost with the addition of Devin Hester, who signed a one-year deal with the team. The veteran struggled with a turf toe injury, but he's now healthy, and we'll see if the 33-year old has any more of the magic left that made him one of the most accomplished return men in the history of the game.

• Maybe it was the system that let him down, or maybe he's just a bust, but former second-round pick of the Jets, Jace Amaro (groin) was claimed off waivers by the Titans. At best, he'll be backing up Delanie Walker at tight end, but those who have stubbornly hung onto Amaro in dynasty leagues will be excited that he'll have a change of scenery.

• After final roster cuts, it was interesting that the Bears only receiving option at tight end was oft-injured Zach Miller. However, the team addressed the situation by adding Logan Paulsen, who was released Saturday. Although he only averaged 26 receptions between 2012 and 2013, he averaged 287 yards and two touchdowns during that time. He's obviously not worthy of a draft pick in fantasy drafts, but if Miller were to get injured, Paulsen would be in line for some pass targets.
