Week 6 FAAB Results

Despite a lack of high-profile names available in most leagues, I was fairly active in FAAB bidding this week. Here are the results from my NFBC and industry leagues.

My starting pitching is reaching Threat-Level Midnight status (4.688 ERA, 1.376 WHIP, tied for 11/15 in K's), so I need to maximize SP's, including taking a chance on Morgan, who in his brief turn this time around has displayed increased velocity over last year. He gets a start at Atlanta and home against the Reds this week.

I just lost Nick Hundley, and adding the starting catcher (likely to return this week) in the best non-Coors lineup in NL if not all of baseball, one that hits for power when healthy, was very appealing to me. I bid more on him than over Tony Wolters, the resurgent Jason Castro, Tucker Barnhart and Kevin Plawecki.

I lead my 12-team league in stolen bases, though I'm hardly running away with the category. If you look at the waiver wire in most leagues when searching for steals, it's pretty tragic. I also have a lot of volatility in the outfield (Carlos Gomez, Khris Davis, Jacoby Ellsbury), so adding another OF-eligible player that runs is useful in this format where we can swap out mid-week.

Vlad and I weren't too aggressive this week - we had to replace Hundley here, too, and reclaimed Cletus in one of the few contested bids this week.

Congratulations! You are now the proud (?) owner of a two-start Cesar Vargas! Oh, by the way, his first start is against the Cubs in Wrigley - do you use him? I'm leaning in favor of using him, hoping that at least I get the K's and hope I don't take too much of a pounding, and benching Steven Matz because he's at Coors for his second start this week.

So ... this team is a real mess. As bad as my pitching has been, my offense might be worse. So I'm putting in a bit of a Hail Mary by bidding on as many prospects as I could, hoping to get some difference-makers. We're allowed to bid on guys still in the minors, and have to keep them up for one week. When the cost is resting the likes of Omar Infante and Nolan Reimold, I see little deterrence in trying.
