If the NFL is going to have "voluntary" workouts and minicamps then the voluntary part should be enforced. If a player doesn't show, he doesn't show and the team shouldn't be allowed to punish him for it, directly or indirectly. Such as Thomas Jones being demoted to the second team because he got on Lovie Smith's bad side for not showing up to earlier "voluntary" workouts. "In order to be at the top of the starting rotation, you have to be here," Smith said. OK, but explain how a guy can lose his place at a workout that is "voluntary." That's bush. Edgerrin James said it best, "I know I didn't graduate college, but I think I know the meaning of the word "voluntary."
