| Jaromir Jagr apparently did an interview with a Czech web site or newspaper that was posted today (that text on that link is written in Czech). A poster on another blog provided a very rough English translation of it, which is pretty funny for some of Jagr's answers, and for some of the broken English to which it is translated, and the smilies inserted by the translator. Some of the highlights (spelling remaining from the translation):
Q: Can you imagine not playing for NYR next season?
A: Sure.
Q: At the same time, you allways relish being here.
A: If they do not want me here what can I do? Clean bins?
At $11 mil a year, he's probably be the most expensive janitor in the country. But if he continues not to produce on the ice...
Q: In recent games you looked harassed. Renney, with Straka out, was trying to find players for your line with dificulties?
A: You know, I lost Nylander in summer. Strcena was 15 games out. It is not fun. I donīt want to complain, but with player we bought I did not have chemistry:-( We invested a lot of money to centers but I play in the line with kid who came from farm.
Q: But Brandon Dubinsky is not the right center for you, isnīt he?
He is good guy. I am not angry with him, he is trying. Hats off.
Q: I saw you several times taping with stick on the ice in good position to receive a pass from him. But nothing came
A: We canīt do nothing with it. When I got angry it would be even worse. I like him, I know he is trying very much to do maximum.
Q: Why it was not clicking with Gomezem?
A: Hard to say.
Q: Because he wants the puck as you?
A: It would have been good but not as expected. For him it will be better to play with Shanny. He is true scorer he does not want the puck in the middle zone. I want it. We play with Gomez very similar style of play.
Q: Why it was not clicking with Drury?
A: We did not play together very much, 4 games or so. Then we tryed it with Dubi it was good.
Q: Were you happy when Straka came back?
A: You bet! I donīt care if I score goal. I have the right taste for game. Straca waits for me, give it to me back. We understand each other on the ice. At once we have more chances. When he steped in on Friday for the first time and did not finish because of the stretched muscle I though that I have a heart attack!
Hats off to Brandon Dubinsky! It looks like Jagr only wants to play with his countrymen; time for a Jagr-Straka-Prucha line and a Drury-Gomez-Shanahan line. And the cherry on top...
Q: Do you have any defensive role in this system?
A: No no. At all.
Q: But sometimes you appear in your defensive zone, in places where you were not used to be.
A: You know, we did not score goals
You must have some discernment.
Jagr? No defensive role? Some things never change, I guess. I love how somehow the word "discernment" is translated.
