Sampson (knee) practiced Monday and is expected to play in Minnesota's NIT opener Wednesday at LaSalle, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Gophers coach Tubby Smith said the senior center, who missed two games in the Big Ten tournament with a tweaked knee, has been playing in contact situations in practice. While Sampson still moves gingerly at times, Smith expects he will be healthy enough to play. It is still unclear whether Sampson will start or not, but Elliott Eliason will get the nod if Sampson isn't deemed to be more a more effective option.
