Nelson was dismissed from the UCLA basketball team Friday, CBS Sports reports.

Nelson incurred his second suspension by the team earlier in the week. He was first suspended in November for "conduct unbecoming" a team member. His latest run-in with coach Ben Howland was apparently the last straw.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Nelson has been suspended indefinitely by UCLA head coach Ben Howland for conduct unbecoming a member of the team. The cause for suspension occurred during the Bruins 69-58 loss to Loyola Marymount Friday as Nelson resorted to tuning out coaches during timeout huddles and appearing visibly frustrated by his role in the UCLA offense, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The Bruins were ranked 17th nationally before their contest with Loyola Marymount, and now have to deal with rebounding from the embarrassment without Nelson, arguably their best player. There were high expectations surrounding the UCLA program this season, but this is obviously not the type of start that coach Ben Howland had anticipated.

Nelson scored 13 points for the Bruins, but was a non-factor in the first half and missed badly on all three of his three-point attempts in their loss to Loyola Marymount, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Nelson was unimpressive in his season opener, and will need to play better in the coming weeks if UCLA intends to meet their high expectations coming into this season. Nelson had missed some practice time due to an injured ankle, which may be a major reason for his poor performance Friday.

Nelson missed practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury and is questionable for Friday's season-opener, the Associated Press reports.

The injury isn't a sprain, but a case of Nelson feeling discomfort in Monday's practice. Bruins coach Ben Howland said that the team was still awaiting the results of an x-ray, but were worried that the injury "... could be serious."
