Boyd tore his right ACL for the third time since December of 2012 and his career with LIU-Brooklyn is over, CBS Sports reports.

Boyd had some very unfortunate luck with three ACL tears ending his collegiate career. In 2012, he averaged 18.5 points and 6.1 rebounds en route to being named the NEC Player of the Year.

Boyd tore his ACL just nine months after suffering the same injury, ESPN.com reports. Coach Jack Perri said he hoped that Boyd could still return this season.

Boyd played just nine games before getting hurt in 2012-13 season. He averaged 18.5 points and 6.1 rebounds. Without Boyd, the Blackbirds will need young players to step up. Point guard Jason Brickman is the team's leading scorer at 9.5 points (and also provided 8.5 assists).

Boyd will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL, CBS Sports reports.

The Blackbirds were the favorite to win the NEC, but Boyd is their best player. Fellow forward Jamal Olasewere is having a terrific season (18.1 points, 6.8 rebounds) and could get even more offensive opportunities with Boyd out.
