Johnson underwent surgery to repair his torn left Achilles tendon, the AP reports. There was no immediate timetable for his return. Coach Tad Boyle said, "This is one of those injuries where the timetable is pretty broad, so we're not ruling out Xavier's return next year."

Johnson is heading into his senior season after providing 10.3 points and 5.6 rebounds in 24.3 minutes last year. He could redshirt since he will likely miss the majority of the season. The team may lean on redshirt sophomore George King to take some of Johnson's minutes.

Johnson did not play Saturday against Washington State due to an ankle injury.

Johnson is physically healthy, but will not play Thursday against Washington after receiving a one-game suspension, Brian Howell of the Boulder Daily Camera reports.

Johnson has missed back-to-back contests due to an ankle injury, but the cause of his absence Thursday appears to be related to off-the-court issues. With Josh Scott (back) highly questionable for the contest, Askia Booker should once again carry most of the offensive load. Johnson has been productive so far this season, averaging 12.8 points and 5.4 rebounds, and his next opportunity to return to action will be Saturday against Washington State.

Johnson left last Wednesday's game against Utah with an ankle injury early in the first half, and he's still dealing with discomfort more than a week later. Johnson went down with an ankle injury six minutes into Wednesday's 74-49 road loss for Colorado at Utah and did not return, the Daily Camera reports.

Commented head coach Tad Boyle of Johnson's injury, "Any time a guy like that goes down, it's not good for your team." "I hope he's back (soon)," he continued, "but those high ankle sprains are very painful and sometimes they take a little longer to come back from than other ones. But we'll get a feel for that as the next couple of days progress." Johnson, a junior guard-forward for the Buffaloes, is currently averaging 12.8 points and 5.4 rebounds a contest.
