Carter (knee) is believed to be out for the season, Chris Solari of the Detroit Free PRess reports.

Losing Carter is a major blow to the Spartans' frontcourt depth, especially for the next month with Miles Bridges (ankle) out for two weeks and Gavin Schilling (knee) not close to playing. Currently a senior, Carter's chances at playing in a Spartan uniform depend on receiving a medical redshirt after missing this season.

Carter's knee injury is expected to be more of a long term injury according to Head Coach Tom Izzo, via Matt Charboneau of The Detroit News.

Carter along with Gavin Schilling, the two most experienced big men for the Spartans, are both out with injuries. Head Coach Tom Izzo said that Carter's knee injury is more significant and will be out longer than Schilling. Izzo would also go on to say, "We really enjoyed Ben the small period we had him." Carter transferred to Michigan State in the offseason from UNLV and was eligible to play immediately.

Carter suffered a knee injury over the weekend, and is expected to be out for an extended period of time, per Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Carter was already recovering from a torn ACL, but was expected to return for Michigan State at the beginning of the 2016-17 season. The graduate transfer from UNLV averaged 8.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, and was expected to compete for a major role with the Spartans. He currently has no timetable for return.

Carter will transfer to Michigan State and be eligible to play next season.

Carter is coming back from an ACL tear suffered at the end of January. He hopes to be ready to play by October. The 6-9 senior averaged 8.6 points and 6.0 rebounds for UNLV last season and could play a major role for the Spartans. Michigan State does not have much depth for forwards.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Carter (knee) will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL in Saturday's loss to San Diego State, Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Carter had been one of UNLV's key contributors off the bench this season, averaging 8.9 points and 7.0 rebounds over 25.8 minutes in eight conference games leading into Saturday's contest. However, the torn ACL will put an end to his season, and the Rebels could have trouble replacing his length and versatility on the wing. Look for Patrick McCaw to continue seeing heavy minutes and Ikie Nwamu saw an increase in minutes after Carter left the game Saturday.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Carter left Saturday's game against San Diego State due to a left knee sprain. He logged just five minutes in the contest.

Carter's injury is officially being called a sprain at this time, but most accounts of the event were not as optimistic. His potential loss is a tough blow to the young program, as the junior forward had been averaging 8.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest. If Carter's absence ends up being a long-term issue, Dwayne Morgan should see plenty of extra minutes down low, while Derrick Jones Jr. and Stephen Zimmerman Jr. will be counted on to handle extra scoring in the post.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Carter produced 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals against New Mexico on Tuesday.

The Oregon transfer has scored at least 10 points in five of his last six appearances. The junior forward also posted a double-double in that span and regularly fills the stat sheet in multiple categories. He is averaging 9.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists on the season.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Carter is averaging 8.7 PPG and 6.1 RPG through UNLV's first seven games this season.

Carter's minutes were limited in his first two games this season, but the Oregon-transfer's role has increased since shooting efficiently in his minutes. He has a 56.1 shooting percentage on the year, helped largely by shooting above 50% in every game thus far. He also has played more than 20 minutes in five straight games, which has helped him produce consistently off the bench.
