Matthews (knee) led the Rams with 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting in Friday's season-opening victory against Dartmouth.

Matthews needed just 23 minutes on the floor to collect a team-high scoring total, and also added three boards, three assists and three steals to his final stat line. The junior guard tore his ACL last November, but appears in line to return as Rhode Island's leading scorer. The 6-5 guard is a must-own in any format featuring Atlantic-10 players.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews (knee) continues to build strength and stamina, and plans to be ready for the Nov. 11 opener against Dartmouth, the Providence Journal reports.

Reconstructive knee surgery led to an early finish to Matthews' 2015-16 campaign, but look for the guard to be back with a vengeance after logging just 10 minutes on the court a season ago. His sophomore season with the program was tremendously successful, as the 6-foot-5 wing averaged 16.9 points and 4.6 boards per contest. A career 41 percent field goal shooter, Matthews is the favorite to lead the Rams in scoring this season, and could compete for all-A10 honors.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews (knee) is currently about 80 percent recovered, and expects to resume full basketball activities in early September, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

After tearing his ACL in November, Matthews has been moving nicely through the rehab process. This progress is a good sign for Rhode Island. Matthews led all scorers with 16.9 PPG in the 2015-16 season, and expects to be a big part of Rhode Island's offensive power in 2016-17.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews (knee) expects to be fully cleared for basketball activities in mid-September, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

Matthews tore his ACL back in November and continues to go through the rehabilitation process. He's steadily progressed over the summer and now expects to be back on the hardwood in full come mid-September. After leading the team with 16.9 points per game during the 2014-15 season, look for Matthews to bring back a much needed scoring punch for the Rams.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and will mess the rest of the season, Gary Parrish of CBS Sports reports.

This is obviously terrible news for the star junior who's considered to likely be a future NBA player. He went down about ten minutes into Rhode Island's game versus American. Shane Plunkett appears to be in line to replace Matthews.

November 13, 2015

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews left the Friday game with American a knee injury and will not return, the Providence Journal reports.

Matthews provided a team-high 16.9 points in 2014-15 and the Rams were counting on the 6-5 junior to shoulder the scoring load again this year. He will undergo tests on his knee to determine the extent of the injury. Sophomore Jared Terrell may get more opportunities.

March 18, 2015

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews pumped in 18 points Tuesday against Iona, adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Matthews has now scored at least 16 points in nine straight contests, having at least four boards in all but one of those games. His price may exceed his value in daily leagues, but he's a rock solid option.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews had 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block Wednesday against Davidson.

An overall sound line from Matthews, who hit just 4-of-16 from the floor, including 1-of-9 from 3-point range. He's scored at least 16 points in four of his last five games despite shooting 50 percent or better just once, and will likely be a volume scorer again Saturday against La Salle.
