Artis will not play Friday after "failing to uphold the standards of a University of Pittsburgh basketball player," according to a statement from the school.

Pitt will be without one of its leaders and best players Friday as Artis will be suspended for the Panthers' matchup with Duquesne. Artis' 19.7 points per game average will be difficult to replace Friday, but a greater onus could be placed on Michael Young (23.6 PPG) and Cameron Johnson (11.1 PPG) to score against Duquesne. Ryan Luther, who is averaging 20.6 minutes per game, could start in Artis' place Friday. Fortunately, head coach Kevin Stallings' statement suggested that Artis' suspension may not stretch beyond Friday. "Missing a game as a senior is a tough lesson to learn but I believe he will be better as a result of this action. Jamel remains an important part of our program and we look forward to his return to form on and off the court," said Stallings.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Artis had 22 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals Tuesday against Maryland.

Artis' scoring has really picked up during his senior season. He's gone for at least 20 points in five of seven games and is averaging 19.7 points per game, up from 14.4 from last season. That he's chipping in 5.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.0 steals has made him quite a bargain given his likely discounted price on draft day, and there's every reason to think his play is sustainable throughout the year given his past production.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Artis is the favorite to be Pittsburgh's starting point guard in 2016-17, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

Artis started last season as the small forward, and averaged 14.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists in 30 minutes per game. The senior would be huge for a point guard, at 6-foot-7 and 220 pounds. He has already proven himself to be a good facilitator, averaging the second most assists on the team in his junior season.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Artis tallied 13 points (3-13 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 5-6 FT), nine rebounds and one assist in 34 minutes Wednesday versus Louisville.

Artis couldn't get much going offensively, and is partly to blame for Louisville nearly doubling Pittsburgh in three-point shooting percentage. Nonetheless, his production fell right in line with his season averages of 15.0 points and 5.1 boards. Similar numbers should be expected going forward, though Sunday brings another tough contest against the Blue Devils.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Artis had 19 points and seven rebounds Tuesday against Wake Forest.

Artis had scored five points in each of his last two games. He remained cold from the floor, hitting only 6-of-14 shots. His struggles from 3-point range can be blamed for his recent scoring outage, as Artis has hit just 3-of-13 over the past three games. He'll likely have ample opportunities to hoist some long range shots against Syracuse's 2-3 zone next time out.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Artis finished with nine points, three rebounds and three assists Wednesday at Clemson.

Artis hit only 4-of-11 from the floor and has only hit 50 percent of his shots once in the last seven games. The outing snapped a nine game double-digit scoring streak for Artis, who figures to rebound against Virginia Tech over the weekend.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Artis finished with 19 points (7-15 FG, 5-9 3Pt), five rebounds, and three assists in Saturday's win over Notre Dame.

The 6-7 junior has now scored in double figures in all but three of the Panthers' games thus far, bringing his season averages to 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Artis has shot an impressive 54.1 percent from the field, 79.7 percent from the free-throw line, and 40.4 percent from beyond the arc, making him one of the most efficient scorers for Pittsburgh. The Baltimore native is a major reason why they rank tenth in the nation averaging 85.3 points per game as a team.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Artis had 18 points, five assists and four rebounds Wednesday against Georgia Tech.

Artis has now scored at least 14 points in four straight, raising his season average to a personal best 15.8 points. He's chipping in 4.5 boards and 3.5 assists, and is a solid option Saturday against Notre Dame.
