Davis entered Friday's 30-13 loss to the Tiger-Cats in relief of Matt Nichols (hand) with 9:28 remaining in the third quarter and completed nine of 14 passes for 84 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He also gained 21 yards on three rushes.

Davis put up a decent stat line during his emergency duty, but ultimately couldn't get the Blue Bombers into the end zone. The 28-year-old had only logged three pass attempts on the season prior to Friday, so he performed well considering his lack of game action. The mobile signal caller will be called upon to start the Week 17 tilt versus the Lions if Nichols is unable to return for the contest.

Bombers head coach Mike O'Shea announced Friday that Davis would be the Blue Bombers' backup quarterback, Bob Irving of 680 CJOB reports.

Davis re-signed with the team back in January despite being buried on the bench while serving as the team's No. 3 option last season. However, he's managed to move up the pecking order and beat out Dan LeFevour to be the team's primary backup. Matt Nichols will serve as the starter.

Davis re-signed with the Blue Bombers on Wednesday, Winnipeg radio host Darrin Bauming reports.

Davis hasn't played for Winnipeg since he's been buried on the bench as the team's No. 3 option at quarterback. At present he's the only quarterback under contract with the team for next season and he could begin to earn his way up in the pecking order.
