O'Brien has left Wisconsin, ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
O'Brien was expected to emerge as Wisconsin's new starting quarterback in 2012, but he turned out to be a complete disaster and was outplayed by both Joel Stave and Curt Phillips. O'Brien would have been no higher than fourth on the depth chart this year with Stave, Phillips and Tanner McEvoy around.

A transfer from Maryland, O'Brien struggled in his sophomore season in College Park in 2011. He completed only 56.4 percent of his passes, while throwing seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. As a freshman, however, O'Brien shined for the Terrapins, completing 57 percent of his passes and averaging 7.2 yards per attempt, while throwing 22 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. Wisconsin helped Russell Wilson adapt quite well after transferring from North Carolina State last season. Now, the Badgers are hoping they get more of the freshman version of O'Brien than the sophomore one.
O'Brien did a great job last year, throwing 22 touchdowns to eight interceptions as a redshirt freshman. But his upside figures to be limited as a fantasy option, because new coach Randy Edsall ran extremely run-heavy offenses at Connecticut.
If the Terps decide to go with a traditional pocket passer, 6-3 215-pound redshirt freshman Danny O’ Brien will be the man. O’Brien is the underdog even though Coach Ralph Friedgen has relied on similar quarterbacks in the past. Following last year’s 2-10 embarrassment Friedgen will be looking to make changes, and O’Brien likely offers the decent but unspectacular quarterback play that the program has become accustomed to, while Jamarr Robinson brings with him the a more exciting style of play.
