January 2, 2013
Taylor took 20 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown Tuesday as Stanford shook off Wisconsin 20-14 at the 2013 Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
ANALYSIS
Taylor finishes his final year with the Cardinal having proven himself a workhorse, taking a numbing 322 carries for 1530 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns. With the Mansfield, Texas tailback now leaving the collegiate ranks, look for current junior Anthony Wilkerson to take over the reins of Stanford's rushing attack heading into the 2013 season.

Even with Tyler Gaffney, Anthony Wilkerson and Jeremy Stewart draining his numbers to the tune of 988 yards and 19 touchdowns, Taylor still finished last season with 1,330 yards (5.5 YPC) and 10 touchdowns as Stanford's top runner, adding 182 yards and two scores on 25 receptions. Gaffney and Wilkerson will remain nuisances this season, but at least Stewart is gone, and Stanford likely will go more run-heavy now that Andrew Luck is gone to the NFL and the team lacks a proven replacement at quarterback. Taylor should produce like he has the last two years, a span in which he has averaged 1,234 yards and 12.5 touchdowns on the ground.
Taylor emerged from a crowded Stanford backfield to lead the team with 1,137 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground in his true sophomore season. He also proved to be a skilled pass catcher, taking 28 receptions for 266 yards and a touchdown. Even if he isn’t Toby Gerhart, Taylor figures to put up even bigger numbers next year as Stanford’s feature back.
Taylor must be amused at how so many people are writing off the Stanford running game this year. He certainly won't match Toby Gerhart's production from last year, but Taylor performed well as a freshman in 2009, taking 56 carries for 306 yards and two touchdowns. Stanford will lean more on Andrew Luck's ability as a passer this year, but Taylor should still be good for double-digit touchdowns and 1,000 yards rushing. He'll be a steal in most formats and should be a very high pick in Pac-10-only leagues.
