UCF: QB Bortles Declares For 2014 NFL Draft

Bortles will declare for the 2014 NFL Draft, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

ANALYSIS
Bortles will go out on top after an impressive win over Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl, and a senior season in which he threw for 3,581 yards and 25 touchdown passes. With several teams looking for quarterbacks in the 2014 Draft, Bortles saw it fit to forego his senior year, with hopes of being selected in the first round.

Bortles gained some valuable experience as a freshman in 2011 (75-for-110, 958 yards) and really broke out as a sophomore last season. He completed 62.9 percent of his passes and threw for over 3,000 yards and 25 scores. Most impressive, however, was his ability to take care of the ball, throwing just seven picks. Bortles is an athletic 6-4, 220, and added 285 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 2012. He’ll again be the primary playmaker for the Golden Knights in 2013.

Jeff Godfrey entered 2011 as the firmly established starter at quarterback for UCF, but Bortles managed to displace the former four-star recruit before the season's end. He's not the runner that the athletic Godfrey is, but Bortles turned out to be a significantly better passer, throwing for completing 68.2 percent of his passes while averaging 8.7 yards per pass and throwing for six touchdowns compared to three interceptions. Bortles' fantasy value is capped by UCF's extremely effective running game, but he should continue to produce efficiently in 2012.
