Past Fantasy Outlooks
2014
2013
2012
Edwards is perhaps the nation's most accomplished RB as he heads into his senior year. The 225-pound workhorse has impressive movement for a big back, and his combination of power and cutting ability allowed him to find the end zone 39 times the last three years. The only limitation to Edwards' game is as a receiver – his 28 career receptions went for just 125 yards (4.5 YPC) and no touchdowns. Still, he is a reliable double-digit touchdown source. The Ball State offensive line returns three of its five starters, and Edwards might get more carries this year as the Cardinals break in a new starting quarterback.
Edwards is a very impressive player and arguably the nation's premier big back, possessing very good balance and cutting ability and surprising burst on a 225-pound frame. Even with Horactio Banks stealing about 10 carries per game and the Ball State offensive line losing four fifths of its starters, Edwards should remain the sort of player who provides his owners 100 yards and at least one touchdown most weeks. He did that much in 2012, running for 1,410 yards and 14 touchdowns on 6.1 yards per carry, giving him double-digit touchdowns for the second year in a row.
Even though he's Ball State's biggest back (5-10, 232) and the team's goal-line back, Edwards nonetheless had no trouble averaging much more yards per rush than the players who inexplicably saw carries at Edwards' expense last year. Edwards finished with 786 yards on 4.4 yards per carry while running for 11 touchdowns, while Barrington Scott (4.2 YPC) and Dwayne Donigan (3.3 YPC) combined for 147 carries. It's difficult to imagine Ball State being so silly two years in a row, in any case, so Edwards should push for 1,000 yards in addition to his likely double-digit touchdowns in 2012.
