Disappoints in senior season
December 5, 2017
Rose's final regular season ends with nine touchdowns and 807 yards on 171 carries.
ANALYSIS
Rose's season looks solid at first glance, but taken in the scope of his entire career it begins to look more like a disappointment. After topping 1100 yards in each of his first two years for the Aggies, Rose will have to have a big bowl game in order to reach that milestone for the third time in his career. His nine touchdowns also currently sits at the same number he had his freshman season, and he should fall short of his career high in a season of 14 barring an outburst in their bowl game against Utah State, who is giving up 170.1 yards and 1.92 touchdowns per game to opposing teams.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017

2015
A sports hernia injury just before the season's start made 2016 something of a lost year for Rose, who was riding the momentum of a remarkable 2015 season when he ran for 1,651 yards (6.9 YPC) and 14 touchdowns in 12 games, adding 282 yards and two touchdowns receiving. Last year he ran for merely 865 yards (5.4 YPC) and four touchdowns in nine games – an enviable box score to most, but a significant disappointment for a player as good as Rose. If his health is more cooperative this year, he should reestablish himself as one of the nation's best players.
Rose (5-11, 184) doesn't get nearly enough credit for his 2015 season, which saw him total 1,657 yards (6.9 YPC) and 14 TDs on the ground while catching 30 passes for 283 yards and two TDs in 12 games. He did that despite playing Florida and Mississippi in two of those games. That production is likely the best-case scenario for Rose – it's not common for runners to maintain an average of nearly seven yards per carry in a high-volume workhorse role – but the fact that Rose totaled 1,274 yards and 10 touchdowns from scrimmage in 2014 shows last year was no fluke.
Rose, 5-11, 180, lost two games last year to a tweaked knee and a concussion, but he posted big numbers when healthy. He finished with 1,102 yards (5.9 YPC) and nine touchdowns on just 186 carries last year, adding 23 receptions for 172 yards and a 10th touchdown. He should benefit from an improved offense as quarterback Tyler Rogers enters his second year as starter, and the Aggies bring back all but one of their starting offensive linemen. New Mexico State tends to be unstable year to year, which hurts Rose's ranking, but he looks too good to be held back. He's already proven capable of elite numbers in a less than ideal setting.
