Leaves program due to lingering health concerns
August 17, 2016
Sprague left Ohio's football program Wednesday, Jason Arkley of The Athens Messenger reports.
ANALYSIS
Sprague's decision to end his career at Ohio could be less about the competition he was facing and more about lingering physical issues that had already caught up to the redshirt senior. According to Arkley, Sprague had surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome this spring, which is a procedure that entailed having a rib removed from his right (throwing) side. Sprague appeared in seven games last season and showed some potential, completing 55.3 percent of his passes for 912 yards (8.0 YPA), seven touchdowns, and three picks while adding 225 yards on the ground. Now that Sprague is no longer in the picture for the Bobcats, Greg Windham and Quinton Maxwell are the main competitors to win the starting job.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Sprague has made a case for the starting role at Ohio at a few points in the last two years, but with Derrius Vick no longer around, the path is entirely clear for Sprague to finally take that next step and take sole ownership of the Bobcat quarterback position. He's lacked polish as a passer and that is somewhat likely to remain the case in 2016, but Sprague has quiet fantasy intrigue thanks to his rushing ability and the strength of Ohio's wideout rotation, which boasts three quality starters. In what should be the best Ohio offense since the Tyler Tettleton years, Sprague is a player to keep a close eye on, and he should be one of the better fantasy quarterbacks in the MAC.
