Florida State: Jameis Winston Will Head to NFL
January 7, 2015
Winston's father said Wednesday that his son will leave Florida State and enter the 2015 NFL Draft, David Hale of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reports surfaced Tuesday suggesting that Winston was considering a return to the Seminoles for his junior season, but after receiving a first-round grade from the NFL's draft advisory committee, he decided to take his game to the next level. Winston's numbers took a dive in 2014 after he won the Heisman Trophy a year earlier as a redshirt freshman, but he still finishes his Florida State career ranked fourth in program history in touchdowns (65) and passing yards (7,964). With few signal-callers in this year's draft class seemingly fitting the franchise quarterback mold, Winston shouldn't have much difficulty earning an early selection, despite a litany of off-field incidents in college.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2014
2013
Winston's first year as starter couldn't have been more successful. He led Florida State to the national championship and won the Heisman Trophy, passing for 4,057 yards (10.6 YPA), 40 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He showed a bit of running ability, too, adding 219 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. It's reasonable to expect some regression, if only because his numbers were so improbable last year, but few QBs offer a floor as high as his. The Florida State offense returns No. 1 WR Rashad Greene and all but one of its starting offensive linemen this season.
The hype machine is in full effect for Winston following the post-spring transfer of presumed starter Clint Trickett. Winston had an impressive spring despite splitting time between football and baseball, and there might be a fan and media uproar should Winston not start for FSU. He’s drawing comparisons to former FSU Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward, is said to have better wheels and a better arm than the departed E.J. Manuel. Growing pains are inevitable, but Winston is going to be a mainstay in college drafts for the next three years. This will likely be the only time you can get him for cheap.
