UConn: Lyle McCombs No Longer On Team
RBNo Current School
June 4, 2014
McCombs is no longer a part of Connecticut's football team, CBS Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
McCombs led the Huskies in rushing each of the past three seasons, including 670 yards and five touchdowns last year. The former running back will remain at UConn through the summer to earn his degree, but his absence suddenly creates a huge void in the backfield. As a result, both Max DeLorenzo and Jazzmar Clax figure to assume larger roles in UConn's ground game.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2013
2012
Measuring in at just 5-8, 166, McCombs has been the Huskies’ feature back for the past two seasons. As a redshirt freshman in 2011, he rushed for nearly 1,200 yards (4.2 yards per carry) and seven scores. Last season, his numbers dipped a bit, as he ran for 860 yards and six touchdowns. The offensive line was an issue for UConn in 2012, but with all five starters returning, McCombs will look to once again break the 1,000-yard plateau in the team’s first season as a part of the new American Athletic Conference.
McCombs' upside seems rather limited in Connecticut's plodding, low-powered offense, but his huge carry volume from last year gives hope that the size of his workload will offset the mediocrity of his efficiency. Although he only averaged 4.2 yards per carry, McCombs averaged nearly 23 carries per game as he ran for 1,151 yards last year, though just seven touchdowns. He at least showed a bit more explosiveness as a receiver, averaging roughly 9.1 per reception while totaling 172 yards and a score. His big workload should in any case give him a decent floor most days.
