Bench failed to provide a spark in his first game as the Bulls starting quarterback, as the team ran only 55 plays in the game and couldn't stay on the field, converting just 5-of-13 third downs and failing both fourth down attempts. Things should get a little easier when Houston returns from its bye to play SMU on Nov. 15, but Bench will probably find himself more in a game manager role while the Bulls lean on their rushing attack.
