Declares for 2017 NFL Draft
December 28, 2016
Cannon announced Wednesday that he will forego his senior season and enter the 2017 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
The talented junior showed he had little else to prove at the college level Tuesday by putting on a show in Baylor's bowl game against Boise State. He burned the Broncos for 14 catches for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Cannon (6-0, 180) is a tremendous athlete, recording a 40.0-inch vertical jump and a 128-inch broad jump during his time at Baylor. In addition to his athleticism, Cannon has exhibited strong route running ability in addition to reliable hands. He figures to test extremely well at the combine and could be a big riser up draft boards as the process gets underway.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
2014
Cannon (6-0, 180) was expected and still has a strong chance to enjoy a huge breakout season in 2016, as he'll likely step into the lead WR role with Corey Coleman in the NFL. The problem is that the shocking May firing of coach Art Briles threatens to destabilize an unstoppable offensive machine. Baylor replaced Briles with former Wake Forest coach (and stranger to high scoring) Jim Grobe and, while Grobe presumably will do his best to let the Baylor offense function as it did previously, losing Briles hurts. Still, Baylor remains loaded, headlined by Cannon.
Cannon likely will rank far ahead of teammate Jay Lee on most draft boards, which is understandable considering he is more talented. However, Lee and Corey Coleman are expected to start at the outside receiver spots with Cannon on the inside, which likely will lower the average depth of his targets. Cannon's superior talent makes him the preferred target over Lee, but the difference might not be as big as most expect. And while Cannon was exceptional as a true freshman last year, his stats were inflated by a two-game stretch against Northwestern State and Buffalo in which Coleman and Antwan Goodley did not play. Cannon totaled 412 yards and four touchdowns in those games, in a season that he finished with 1,030 yards and eight scores.
Top 2013 recruit Robbie Rhodes was just kicked off the team, and returning wideouts Antwan Goodley, Levi Norwood and Clay Fuller are all seniors. That leaves just Corey Coleman and Jay Lee as established current Baylor wideouts who will stick with the team beyond 2014. Cannon and Davion Hall are both elite recruits from this year, with Cannon providing rare speed and Hall possessing WR1 upside at around 6-foot-3, 190 pounds.
