Warming up as wideout
November 18, 2017
Allen (knee) is warming up as a receiver for Saturday's game against Indiana, Keith Sargeant of The Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Allen had been on the quarterback depth chart, but with the team so low on options at wideout, it appears he could make his first appearance of the season in a different role. Even if he does play, it's unlikely he will do much as part of a lackluster Scarlet Knights attack.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Allen, a grad transfer from TCU, comes to Rutgers after a couple of seasons sitting behind stud quarterback Trevone Boykin. He chose an excellent time to do so given that Rutgers is coming off a dreadful season and is now under the direction of new head coach Chris Ash. Last year’s starter, Chris Laviano, completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 2,247 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 12 picks in 2015 -- not the kind of numbers that make him a lock to be the starter again in 2016. Despite his lack of experience, Allen will push for the starting role this fall thanks to his skillset and fit within Chris Ash and OC Drew Mehringer’s uptempo system. Considering Allen’s athletic track record that includes getting some time at wide receiver at TCU, Allen certainly has the dimensions that fit the mold as a quarterback in that type of offense. If Allen ultimately wins the job, look for him to be a capable dual threat quarterback that adds another layer to an already dangerous run game.
