Consistency has been an issue for the speedy King, but he has enough of a grip on the top wideout spot in Georgia that he should put together a career year as a senior in 2012. He only caught 46 passes for 677 yards last year, but he scored eight touchdowns on that limited catch total, and his main competition for targets in 2011 -- Malcolm Mitchell (moved to cornerback) and Orson Charles (NFL) -- are no longer threats. Aaron Murray is an elite quarterback, too, so King’s situation couldn’t be much more favorable.
Despite being caught in the vast shadow of A.J. Green all this time, King has still been able to establish himself as one of college football’s best big-play threats at receiver the last two years. He has only 45 catches in that span, but he took those receptions for 881 yards—an average of 19.6 yards per catch. With Green out of the way in 2011, King should get many more opportunities than he has in past years.
King is one of college football's best deep threats, as evidenced by his 18 catches for 377 yards and a touchdown during his freshman year in 2009. He should see a much bigger role in the offense, though A.J. Green will retain superior status. King is worth a gamble pick in SEC-only leagues.
