Kyles returned from a three-game absence Saturday to rush for 36 yards on eight carries in a blowout loss at Louisiana-Monroe.
ANALYSIS
Kyles, who also fumbled Saturday, missed three games with a knee injury. Kyles got regular carries after Ben Cunningham went down with an injury. He ran for more 201 yards and two touchdowns in his two games previous to hurting his knee. Cunningham, though, also returned from injury Saturday, which should relegate Kyles to change-of-pace duty.

With the departures of Dwight Dasher and Phillip Tanner, the Middle Tennessee backfield is in for a big makeover. Benjamin Cunningham is another threat to emerge with carries for Middle Tennessee, but with 217 career carries heading into his senior season, Kyles should probably be considered the favorite. But with the offense undergoing a significant transition out of the Dasher era, there's no guarantee that Kyles will have an easy go of it.
Kyles had an excellent sophomore season in 2009, totaling over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns as a largely part-time player. Unfortunately, he'll be even more of a part-time player with the return of Phillip Tanner. But Kyles demonstrated he's probably a better overall runner, so he'll definitely stay on the field, but mostly between the 20's. Tanner might be the goal-line back this year, so Kyles' value is probably limited to an insurance pick in Sun Belt-only leagues.
