January 7, 2012
James will enter the 2012 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
James heads into the Rose Bowl with 4,923 yards and 52 touchdowns on the ground (6.6 YPC) in three seasons, making him one of the most productive running backs in recent NCAA memory. He also added 544 yards and four touchdowns through the air on 51 receptions over that span. James will be a hyped name among most football observers heading into the draft, but his game is probably not as big as his name. While James is an intense competitor with great shiftiness, he probably isn't a standout athlete relative to his size. Listed at 5-foot-9, 195 pounds, James looks more like 5-foot-7, 180 pounds. He hits the hole with authority, but James benefited from a gimmicky offense at Oregon and didn't consistently display good vision. Despite the name recognition he brings, it's difficult to see him going before the fourth round. He doesn't project as much more than a kick and/or punt returner on special teams and a situational player on offense.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2011
2010
There’s not much more that can be said about James at this point. He plays in what might be the nation’s most prolific offense, and he might be the primary reason why that offense is so good. With 38 touchdowns in the past two years, this is a player you simply can’t go wrong with. He’ll remain the engine that drives the Ducks offense.
Although he'll start the season with a one-game suspension, James will be one of the best in the country after that. He was nothing less than incredible as a freshman last year, running for 1,546 yards and 14 touchdowns on 230 carries. It's in Oregon's interest to keep his workload a bit lighter, however, as he's not a big back and there are at least two other excellent runners on the team in Kenjon Barner and super-recruit Lache Seastrunk. Expect James' yardage total to dip a bit perhaps, but his touchdown total could actually go up with Jeremiah Masoli suspended, as Masoli ate up double-digit rushing touchdowns last year.
